Microneedling in Atlanta

Four devices, one honest conversation about which one your skin actually needs.

The Approach

Three of our four microneedling devices are not really microneedling. They are microneedling plus heat.

This is the distinction that organizes the entire category, and almost nobody explains it, which is why patients arrive genuinely confused about why one device costs three times what another does. Traditional microneedling, which is SkinPen, uses very fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-injuries in your skin. Your body treats them as damage and repairs them, and in the repairing it lays down new collagen. That is the entire mechanism. It is mechanical, it is elegant, and it works well on texture, scarring, and tone.

RF microneedling, which is Morpheus8, Sylfirm, and Vivace, does all of that and then delivers radiofrequency energy through the needles into the tissue beneath. That heat does something the needles alone cannot: it contracts existing collagen and stimulates it far more aggressively at depth. You get tightening on top of texture. More correction, more cost, and generally a bit more recovery. That is the trade, and it is the only trade that matters here.

Candidacy

Are You a Candidate?

Most people are a candidate for something on this menu. The question is which device, and occasionally the answer is not a needle at all.

We will tell you when the gentlest device is enough, and when running SkinPen six times is just a slower way of not getting what you came for.

Microneedling is likely right if:

  • Your concerns are texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines, tone, or, with the RF devices, mild to moderate laxity
  • You can commit to a series of three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. One session is not a treatment, it is a start
  • You can plan around one to two days of visible redness after each session
  • You are willing to protect the result afterward, which means SPF and staying out of the sun
  • You have deeper skin and have been steered away from lasers. This may well be your treatment

Scope

What Microneedling Treats

It treats

Acne scarring and other textural scarring. Fine lines and wrinkles, including around the eyes and mouth. Enlarged pores. Uneven texture and tone. Stretch marks. Sun damage and uneven pigmentation. And skin firmness and elasticity, particularly with the RF devices.

It does not treat

Sagging tissue and structural descent, which are surgical even when RF is involved. Volume loss, which needs filler or fat. Deep static folds. Microneedling improves the quality and firmness of your skin. It does not change the architecture underneath it.

Skin Tone

Microneedling and Your Skin Tone

Microneedling is mechanical rather than light-based. It does not target melanin, which means it does not carry the pigmentation risk that older lasers carried for patients with deeper skin.

For a woman with Fitzpatrick IV to VI skin who has been told, or has simply assumed, that collagen treatments are not for her, microneedling is frequently one of the safest and most effective options available.

Come in and ask. We will tell you honestly what is appropriate for your skin, and what settings and pre-treatment we would use.

Choosing

Traditional or RF Microneedling: Which Do You Need?

SkinPen

Traditional

  • Needles only. Micro-injury triggers collagen.
  • Texture, acne scarring, pores, and tone. The gentlest and most accessible option, and often the right starting point.
  • 1 to 2 days of redness.
  • The most accessible price point on the menu.

Morpheus8, Sylfirm, Vivace

RF microneedling

  • Needles plus radiofrequency heat delivered into the deeper tissue.
  • Laxity and deeper texture, with real tightening on top of the texture work.
  • Substantially more, and the gap is one of the main practical differences between the four devices.

Within the RF group the devices differ too. Morpheus8 is the most corrective, for laxity and deeper texture. Sylfirm suits pigment, redness, and melasma alongside texture, and is also used on the scalp. Vivace delivers RF results with a comfort-focused delivery. Most people cannot tell from a website which of these they need, and neither can we without looking at your skin. What we can promise is that we will tell you when the gentlest device is enough.

Longevity

How Long Do Results Last?

You may see something after one session. You will not see the full benefit until the series is complete, and collagen continues building for months afterward. Most patients then maintain with a session every six to twelve months. The spacing between sessions is not arbitrary either. Four to six weeks is how long your skin needs to heal and lay down collagen between treatments, and compressing it does not accelerate the result, it just irritates your skin.

Recovery

What Recovery Actually Looks Like

One to two days of visible redness, then a week of light restrictions. Here is the whole arc.

Day of treatment

Redness and mild swelling, like a light sunburn. Do not touch or scratch your face.

Days 1 to 2

Redness fades. Some dryness or fine flaking as the skin regenerates. Most people are comfortable in public.

First 72 hours

No swimming, saunas, hot tubs, or strenuous exercise. No touching the treated area.

First 7 days

Stay out of direct sunlight. Gentle, medical-grade skincare only. No exfoliating for 3 to 7 days.

72 hours to 10 days

Initial results appear. Softened lines and smoother skin.

Weeks to months

Collagen keeps building. The result continues improving well after you stop watching for it.

The visible part of recovery is short, a day or two of looking flushed, but that is not the timeline that matters most. The real work is the collagen your skin lays down over the weeks between sessions, and the four-to-six-week spacing is built around exactly that. What you do in that window, the SPF and the gentle skincare, is what protects each session so the next one starts from a better place rather than repairing the last.

Your Experience

Your Personalized Treatment Experience

Consultation

We look at your skin, assess texture, tone, pigment, and laxity, and recommend a device. Sometimes that is gentler than you expected. Sometimes it is an RF device, because the gentle one would not get you there and we would rather say so.

Treatment

About 60 minutes.

Recovery

One to two days of redness. No touching for 72 hours. No sun for a week.

Results

Initial changes at 72 hours to 10 days. Then a series, then maintenance. Collagen keeps building for months.

The Practice

Why Patients Choose Artisan

We own four microneedling devices

Plus lasers and peels, which means we have no reason to sell you the wrong one. A practice with a single device will always recommend that device.

We will tell you when a needle is not the answer

If your concern is sagging rather than texture, no amount of microneedling fixes it, and we have surgeons in the same practice who can. Very few med spas can say that honestly.

Safe across every skin tone

Microneedling is mechanical, not light-based, so it does not carry the pigmentation risk that kept deeper skin tones off older lasers. If you were told collagen treatments were not for you, ask us. Often they are.

FAQ

Microneedling FAQs

What is the difference between microneedling and RF microneedling?

Traditional microneedling, meaning SkinPen, uses needles to create micro-injuries that trigger collagen. RF microneedling, meaning Morpheus8, Sylfirm, and Vivace, does the same and then delivers radiofrequency heat through the needles into the deeper tissue. That heat adds tightening on top of texture. More correction, more cost, and generally a bit more recovery.

Which device should I get?

SkinPen for texture, scarring, and pores, and as the most accessible starting point. Morpheus8 for laxity and real tightening. Sylfirm for pigment, redness, and melasma alongside texture. Vivace for RF results with a comfort focus. A consultation settles it quickly.

Is there downtime?

Yes, and we would rather be straight with you. Expect one to two days of redness resembling a light sunburn, with possible dryness or flaking. Most people resume normal activities within 24 hours, and there are restrictions for a week: no sun, no exfoliating, and no strenuous exercise or saunas for the first 72 hours.

How many sessions will I need?

Three to six, spaced four to six weeks apart. That spacing is how long your skin needs to heal and build collagen between sessions. You may see something after one. You will not see the full benefit until the series is done.

How much does it cost?

It varies significantly by device, and the gap between SkinPen and RF microneedling is substantial. It is also a series plus maintenance every six to twelve months, which makes it a recurring commitment. We give you the total at consultation so you can plan for it.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?

Yes, and it is one of the better options available. Microneedling is mechanical rather than light-based, which means it does not target melanin the way older lasers did, and it does not carry the same pigmentation risk. If you have been steered away from lasers, this may well be your treatment.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe it as mild discomfort, not pain. Before your treatment we apply a topical numbing cream, so most of what you feel is light pressure or a scratchy, vibrating sensation as the device moves across your skin. Bony areas like the forehead and upper lip can feel a little more sensitive. Afterward your skin may feel warm and tight, like a light sunburn, for a day or two.

Can I add PRP to my microneedling treatment?

Yes. PRP, drawn from your own blood, can be applied during microneedling so the growth factors reach the deeper layers through the channels the needles create. It is a common pairing and worth discussing at consultation.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Frequently. It pairs with peels, light-based therapies, and targeted serums. Microneedling works on texture and structure, BBL works on color, and many patients need both.

Will microneedling tighten sagging skin?

RF microneedling delivers meaningful tightening on mild to moderate laxity. It will not raise tissue that has genuinely descended. If you have real jowling, no needle fixes it, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a series that was never going to work.

When will I see results?

Initial changes at 72 hours to 10 days, and improvements continue for months as collagen builds. The result keeps getting better after you stop paying attention to it.
