These are very confusing and scary times for all of us. Our lives are being turned upside down and, to me, it feels surreal. As a physician, I have always tried to understand disease processes and human health: the AIDS epidemic while I was in New York City before HIV was identified; yearly concerns with the FLU; Bird Flu; and the SARS epidemic. Yet the medical profession never shuts down. Normally, the world doesn’t either.

Now I am reading and taking the recommendations of our scientific community on the Coronavirus to heart to protect my patients, family and staff, as well as our community. At Artisan, we have always adhered to the highest level of safety protocols in our practice and will continue to be extra vigilant in these challenging times.

I will, of course, continue to care for my patients and perform surgery through this crisis. We obviously understand if patients want to reschedule their procedures due to the current conditions. But please know that I believe there is no heightened surgical risk. We strictly adhere to the guidelines set out by the CDC, and continue to take robust precautions to assure patient safety.

I am hopeful that this crisis will pass soon and we will all get through it in good health.
