Tummy Tuck Surgery in Atlanta
At Artisan Plastic Surgery, we specialize in custom-tailored body contouring for women, including abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery. Our experienced female surgeons have helped many Atlanta tummy tuck patients achieve their goals for a slimmer, flatter, and firmer abdomen that diet and exercise alone could simply not achieve.
Abdominoplasty benefits
A tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) is designed to reshape your abdomen by removing excess fatty tissue and loose, sagging skin, as well as tightening the abdominal muscles. The result is a smoother, flatter, and more youthful abdominal profile. The incision is placed within or just above the pubic area, which is hidden within your swimsuit lines.
Depending on your needs and goals, your plastic surgeon may recommend combining your tummy tuck with liposuction for more comprehensive reshaping and to achieve the most natural, aesthetically pleasing lines. We will always discuss your options thoroughly and answer any questions you may have at your consultation.

Am I a good candidate for tummy tuck surgery?
Abdominoplasty is best suited to patients who are bothered by excess, sagging skin on their tummies and/or stretched, weakened, or protruding abdominal muscles, despite a healthy diet and exercise. Most of our Atlanta tummy tuck patients are women who have either lost significant weight, or who have lost abdominal tone as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.
In fact, women who have had one or more pregnancies are often ideal candidates for tummy tuck surgery. Patients must be in good physical health to tolerate the procedure. Our plastic surgeons will be happy to discuss your aesthetic goals and help you decide if a tummy tuck is right for you at a personal consultation.
Before & After GallerySee artisan patient resultsHow is the tummy tuck procedure performed?
Tummy tuck surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, and the procedure can last several hours. During surgery, incisions are made on the lower abdomen and around the belly button.
Next, the skin is separated from the abdominal wall and the muscles are tightened and secured into their new position. Excess fat and skin is removed, and the navel is repositioned to ensure a natural location on the abdomen—we can even reshape the belly button if you desire. Finally, remaining skin is brought down to achieve a smoother, firmer overall abdominal appearance, and incisions are closed.
Tummy tuck recovery and results
Temporary swelling, bruising, soreness, and numbness of the abdominal wall are common for several weeks after a tummy tuck. Immediately following surgery, we typically require patients to spend up to 24 hours in our recovery unit before going home to continue their recovery. You will need to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home afterwards, as you will still be sore and recovering from the effects of anesthesia.
Most of our patients are up and walking around the day after surgery, but they generally require two to three weeks of recovery before returning to work. We advise against heavy lifting and carrying or vigorous activity for approximately six weeks after a tummy tuck. If you have small children at home, you will need to secure full-time childcare for the first couple of weeks after your tummy tuck.
